Depends on where you are. Most places have at-will employment, meaning they can fire you at any time for any reason. Most places also don't want you working for competitors, especially simultaneously. McDonald's does not want to train you in customer service and how to make great french fries so you can go benefit Burger King. And they don't want Burger King working you extra hours so you're exhausted when you come into McDonald's, etc. And McDonald's doesn't want you playing one place against the other so if you don't get that raise you want you sabotage their food to benefit Burger King instead, etc. Anyway, yes, it would be extremely common for you to be fired if you go try and work simultaneously at a direct competitor. But most places in this instance Burger King wouldn't hire you in the first place if they know you plan to remain at the other. The only reason they would is if they think they can eventually steal you away after McDonald's has trained you, etc.
goggles would be preferred, but glasses with good coverage might also work. Might try the goggles for atv riding, they cover your eyes and have foam around the edges, they are really comfortable. Chemistry goggles really are the best, and they do make other types.
