What is the formula for the volume of a silo?
A silo is just a cylinder with a cone on top. The volume of a cylinder is pi*r^2*h where r is the radius of the circular base and h is the height. The volume of a cone is 1/3 pi*r^2*h where r is the radius of the circular base of the cone and h is the height of the cone. So if a silo has height H in the center and height h at the edge, and the circular base of the silo has radius r (and there is no overhang of the conical roof) then the volume would be pi*r^2*(h+(1/3)(H-h)) = pi*r^2*(H/3 + 2h/3).
