You will not be able to do it without hurting yourself on a really low budget. You need a ceramic dish, a crucible and a source of immense heat. Not worth the harm you can do to yourself.
Generally, an automatic transmission will run between 195'-215'. As aiman said, when pulling a trailer, temps can rise dramatically. At 270' (pretty borderline), I'd begin to worry about transmission life, as the fluid will break down and not lubricate properly. If it's just a few miles a couple times a year, it probably won't hurt anything. However, if you do much hauling, it would be a good idea too add an auxiliary trans cooler.
