I have a 1991 Subaru Legacy 4wd wagon and my suspension is going wonky. I want to replace the current air suspension with a spring strut system. I want to know how much it costs and if this is a repair I can do on my own.
I'm a bit hazy on what you mean. My 92 Liberty (aus name, same car) had air/spring shocks like most other cars. I'm not sure how you can change it from one to the other. Either way, the suspension is very good already - the popularity of lift kits and off-road mods can attest for that. One of the first things we used to do was swap out the standard shocks for some beefier ones with King Springs. There was a range of options available for the sub-400 mark. As for doing it yourself, that depends on your competency and tools. If you have 4 car stands and some expertise you can swap it yourself, but it's an involved job. If you could tackle, for instance, changing a clutch, you could take on the job yourself.
