Question:

What kind of bike should I get?

I‘m 6‘4 and 250 lbs. I don‘t plan on doing anything fancy besides riding around town.I might go off sidewalks it would be mainly for getting to school and back instead of wasting gas. I would also like to have the option of going long distances. Thanks, Not sure what other info you need

Answer:

Look for a touring bike at the local bike shop. It will hold your weight better then a road bike and will be good for long distances. Stay off of the sidewalk where it is more dangerous and illegal.
Tall people don't fit on the one-size-fits-all bikes sold in discount stores. Visit as many specialty bike shops as you can find in your area for advice.
metropol A great choice! You are at the extreme ends of bikes based upon weight. I would suggest a good Cross / hybrid bike or a mountain bike without a suspension systems. The suspension system, o the road, sucks the energy out of your pedaling. Make sure you go to a proper bike shop to be fitted, and discuss your choices. A cross or hybrid bike would be a better choice . but, make sure you switch out your off road knobby tires for smooth road type tires. It makes a big difference in road speed and comfort! A piece of advice. learn how to pedal properly by spinning the pedals. You should spin at a rate of 70 rpm minimum with moderate pedal pressure. Do not ''mash' the pedals a a slow speed in to hard of a gear. It makes riding faster and further, in more comfort possible. Soccerref
