I Want to make a scarf out of cashmere for the winter I found a cashmere blend that is 60% cashmere,30% wool and 10%silk and another that is 100% cashmere as I'm buying online I have no idea what they feel likeI'm guessing the one with wool would be a bit warmer than the otherIn terms of taking care of it, warmth, and overall prettiness which one would be better?
I'd want to feel the fiber or at least know the brand before I stated an opinion between two yarnsI have some cashmere yarn that's no softer than sheep's wool and some cashmere blend that's really easy care, so any general information is likely to be wrong for a specific yarn In general, cashmere is very soft and warmIt requires special care-soak it in tepid water with a wool wash (NOT Woolite-it's death on wool), lift it gently from the water and press out as much water as possible, and lay flat to dryDon't agitate, don't wringMost wool washes don't required rinsing, but if you rinse, do it gently as wellIn general, cashmere blended with wool is going to be less soft and less warm for the same thickness of yarnThe 10 percent silk (silk dyes better than wool or cashmere) may give it a sheen, but it won't affect the care much if at allYou can wash it the same way as pure cashmere or send it to the dry cleanersI have also found cashmere to be pricy and the blends to be less pricyAll other things being equal, and with reputable spinners producing both yarns, you should be able to use either one for your project and get good resultsEdited to add: In my experience, cashmere is more likely to pill than the blends.
