What kind of ingredients can be used as a substitute for food additives?

Answer:

There are different food additives that you can use to substitute for other food additives. There aren't many natural food preservatives. Salt, vinegar and acids in citrus can preserve food for a time, but you would have to use so much of these ingredients that the food product would taste awful
The question is too general. What food additives are we talking about? Different food additives have different purposes and it would depend on the purpose.
I think most additives fall into three categories: Adding colour to make the product look better Adding flavour enhancers to make the product taste better Adding preservatives to make the product last better. There are natural foods that will fulfil all of these requirements but they are not as reliable as the artificial factory made version, so they are less useful to a production unit.
