Before you attempt to cut wires be absolutely sure the power is turned off to the unit. Turn off that room's power at the breaker box, and then use a tester to be sure that there is no electricity live in the wires. After you disconnect the wires, put a wire nut (twist on cap with a spring in it) on the end. This will keep the loose ends from making an electrical connection or causing a fire. Then, replace the smoke detector right away. Every day, people lose their lives because a smoke detector was removed or disconnected.
well. thats what you district representative is for. Video tape some speeders and go to your next city council meeting. They typically have an open forum at the end of every session which allows for citizens to propose problems exactly like yours. Depends on where you live. Google your city and look for it's official site. You'll probably find information there.
How often does the fire department inspect the business? If you are aware of violations to the fire code you can report them. The fine is determined by the laws in your city. Realize that the company will not be happy with you if they know you turned them in, and even though there are whistle blower laws to protect you, you will still have problems.
