Question:

What kinds of fabric give a metallic shine to a garment?

Some clothes look metallic/shiny when you look at them, and some clothes that can stretch still give a metallic texture. What kinds of fabrics create a metallic look to garments? Are there stretchable fabrics that give this look? If so, what are they?

Answer:

Specific fabrics like polyester, cotton, linen, silk are not automatically metallic. But, any of them can look metallic to some degree or another with metallic thread is woven into their overall fabric content. I had a silk velvet from France that had real threads of gold woven into the fabric and a polyester blend that was nearly 80% metallic threads and looked like cloth of gold from Renaissance times. If you are looking for a stretchable fabric that has two/tone shine when moved or a metallic look, you need a fabric with Lycra or Spandex for stretch and either one color waft and one color welt or with metallic woven in with the base color. Liquid Lame is one. It will in any case probably a polyester blend. There is even a stretch metallic denim. So, you see depending on your purpose there are many choices. Below are just 4 of the many websites that have metallic available.
Lurex - A metallic fiber woven into material to give the garment shine. --------------------------------------. Hope this helped !!
