what makes gold soft(easily scratch) while quartz and diamond are so much harder?
The Sonoran desert is in parts of Arizona and California in the United States, and in at least one northwestern state of Mexico named (Surprise!) Sonora. I have found quartz there. If you wanted to find some you might do a web search for the Arizona Mineral Society or something like that.
