motor overheats but no leak. water just boils in resorvoir. is it hard to do it on my own?
ummm please make sure you have proper coolant and not just water in your rad
you may have air pocket.look for the perg valve to let the air out. if your water pump leaks it is bad
Water pumps have whats called a weep hole, if it's going the weep hole will leak coolant, Could be the belt on the waterpump is not tight eneough to turn the pully.
Its generally around 60 to 75 thousand miles, you want to change that belt. And yes. most of the people saying do the water pump at the same time are correct. That belt rides off the waterpump. That pump only costs around 20 to 25 bucks. it will save you all that extra labor in the end if that pump should fail. Do you HAVE to do the waterpump? NO Should you as a preventive maintenance measure YES.
Do your cooling fan(s) operate? One of the common problems with these cars, is for the cooling fan resistor to burn out, causing the low speed cooling fan not to work when commanded by the PCM to work. When this happens, the engine will overheat. Regarding the water pump itself, is relatively simple to access. However, the engine mount needs to be removed in order the gain clearance for the pump pulley to be removed, and then the pump itself. Check the green with black striped wire, and the green with red striped wire leading to the resistor first though. It is secured to the cooling fan shroud by a simple plastic lock clip. This part is far simpler to access than the pump. Hope this helps.
