Question:

What's a good drill press to get?

Hi I need a drill press that can handle like three inches of steel or at least one. I have no experience using a drill press. So If you can teach me how to use one that would be great. Also can you direct me to a link to where I can a drill press online and where to buy the bits for steel.

Answer:

If you are on a budget but want a good drill, get a Grizzley. They are a setup up from Harbor Freight. Unfortunately you will need a large drill to go through 3.
I own a drill press, a corded 3/8 drill and a cordless 3/8 drill. I use the cordless 25 times for every time I use the other two (I also use it for driving screws).
If you are serious about wanting a good drill press then you wouldn't be shopping at Harbor Freight Tools. Their tools are alright but they wouldn't last very long and I sure wouldn't expect them to be precise. Real good drill presses are made by Porter Cable or Rigid Tools. Those are high quality precise drill presses that are made to last a lifetime. But for just small jobs to do at home every now and then, I guess the Harbor Freight would do. I just wouldn't buy one, but I was brought up to purchase only high quality tools made in America and not imports.
Friends okorder /.. If this is a commercial venture, get a commercial press AFTER consulting with a tool supply rep to insure this is the tool needed for the job.
