Question:

What's a twin bed? Is it one large bed or two small beds of the same size?

I am looking for a house to rent this summer and I am look for separate beds...Here is the extract from the owner's email, which I am trying to clarify:Have in mind though that it has only 7 beds (one double in the master bedroom, a twin bed in the second bedroom and another twin in the third bedroom and a single one on its loft). Thanks a lot for your quick responses!

Answer:

In this context they're saying a twin bed--which is a basic small bed intended for just one person. A single one is just one bed in that loft, if it's a really old fashioned bed it's a bit smaller almost like a narrow cot.
A twin is one of the smallest sizes. It's only one bed.
It's a bed big enough for a single person, or two very skinny ones. Typically they are 39 wide in the US, but that varies by locale. They're called twins because they're typically seen in pairs, like a kids bedroom or in the good old days, on TV.
A Twin bed room means that it has two single size beds. A Double room means it has a large double bed.
Saying a twin bed is confusing, as it's clear from adding up that they mean a twin BEDROOM, which is two single beds. Although they say seven beds they clearly mean seven places to sleep, as the double is one bed but counts as two sleeping places. So the master bedroom has one double bed, for two people. The second bedroom has two single beds, the third bedroom has two single beds, and the loft has one single bed. Total six BEDS but seven PLACES to sleep.
