Yes it is the same. If you think the outside pipes are corrodedyou need to also think about the pipes and faucets inside your house. And when new faucets and pipes are put inthey are put in with some pretty nasty stuff. You can also request a report on your drinking water and what is reported in it. The further you live from the source of the water the more polluted it is. They laugh about bottled water and where it actually comes from but at least the ice cubes made from it are clear. I live about as far south as you can get in the US and the drinking water is terrible and comes with warnings about who shouldn't drink it.
