Question:

What safety control practices are in place for medical workers when drawing blood?

I have been freaking out about stds lately so I went to a STD clinic to get tested. While the nurse was drawing my blood, I was wondering what controls are in place for drawing blood. Is the needle used to draw the blood used only once so that it won't be contaminated with infected blood when used on the next person? This might be a silly, stupid question but I kind of obsess over such things. If there are any medical workers who can enlighten me on this, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you.

Answer:

to highlight your native american heritage?? You aren't a tribal citizen, so you aren't native american. Our men and women have no problem cutting their hair short for the military or fire dept. Keep your hair short. It's safer. And why are you asking total strangers on YA? Shouldn't you be asking your department? I'm sure they have a policy and I bet they want it short. Long hair will make it harder to get a tight seal on your mask.
