The simple, yet unfortunate answer, is that we don't know. The person who mentions DeSitter space and a DeSitter Universe is on a slightly different topic than your question ellicits A DeSitter universe (and space) is defined as a universe having no matter yet maintaining an expansion constant 0. Our universe will APPROACH becoming a DeSitter universe as the size will become so large that the matter present in our universe will become so dilute that it will be very close to 0 However, it will never be 0, therefore it will never be a DeSitter universe I'm not going to go into the details here (mainly because I have trouble understanding them myself sometimes :), but M-Theory may ultimately lead to an answer to your question If you want to take a crack at that one, have fun Just Google M-theory, Ed Witten, Lisa Randall, etc. If you're really interested, I would strongly suggest getting a copy of Randall's book Warped Passages Have fun.
