Question:

What size of motorcycle tire will fit?

I have a 2002 Suzuki SV650S and am getting ready to replace the tires. I received an email from a store that I usually shop from and they are having great deals on tires. He‘s the situation: my rear tire size is 160/60 ZR 17 but the website only lists the tire size as 160/60 ZR 17 A. So the question is this: does that A on the end make a difference? Will this tire fit my bike or am I going to have to select a different type of tire? The current ones I‘m looking at are Michelin Pilot Road. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:

both are dangerous but i actually think scooters are more dangerous. they are not as loud and are smaller and harder to see. also sports bikes come in lots of bright colors so there easier to see while scooters are plain grey and black. also scooter think that because they are not motorcycles they can take bigger risks and not worry. yea people who stunt on there bikes are stupid and more likely to die but in a realistic city driving envirinment i think scooter are harder to see and easier to hit by mistake
it is the foolish belief that it goes slower so it must be safer! the same with people that wont let kids have a dirtbike but buy them a 4 wheeler that weigh 3 to 4 times the weight. but is safer, it wont fall over right?. you are less likely to be seen on a quiet little scooter, and just as likely if not more so, to get in an accident on one.
In my opinion, scooters are just as/less dangerous as a motorcycle. Average scooter has less power than a M/C and you're not going very fast. Going at a slower speed you would most likely to see potholes ahead a time than a M/C. Like any two vehicle, you have to make yourself be seen. Reflectors, bright color clothing, etc. Scooter can do tighter turns than a M/C. The issue is not the scooter rider. Mostly, the people in cars who are oblivious to lot a things around them. Also, I have seen M/C riders(Jap bikes) doing some bone-headed maneuvers that almost cause accidents. The guy's wife isn't an idiot. She chose something less hazardous for her husband to ride.
I would say the a the the end makes no difference, as long as the other numbers match your tire. My orig tire was unavailable as well, had to get a a model. They were identical.
160 is the width of the tread shoulder to shoulder in millimeters. 60 is the aspect ratio (percentage of treadwith for sidewall height Z is the speed rating Z149+ MPH R signifies that its a radial 17 is the rim diameter. The two tires you are comparing are the same size dont worry bout the A I dont know what the A is. it may be a manufacturer mark or something. There are different load ratings on motorcycle tires but thats usually expressed in a number. Go ahead and get the one with the A.
