The better front axle for that body style truck was the Dana 44, which was standard equipment from the early 70's to the early 80's. They're a bit beefier differential than the 10-bolt. Likewise, the earlier 12-bolt rear is a bit stouter than the stock 10-bolt unit. The NP208 was put into those trucks from the early 80's to the end of that body style. The NP208 was stock in everything from 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups, Blazers, Jimmys and Suburbans to 1 1/4 ton CUCV U.S. Army 4x4's. The NP205 transfer case was also available, generally these were found in 1 ton trucks mated to a TH400 automatic transmission or SM465 manual transmission
