I need to know the proper clothing and footwear for this. And how does it vary depending on climate and the course? Thanks.
You are far more likely to have a flat tire if yours are very worn. As long as the cords are not showing through the tread, traction should not be affected so cornering and handling would be fine.
You can use your tires until you see the cord showing through. If the tire is cut replace it, if the tread is worn down it doesn't hurt anything unless you are riding in mud. On the road the best traction is a smooth tire.
? Convertible zip off nylon pants ? Synthetic T-shirt or blouse, like Duofold and many others or Nylon collared shirt, short or long sleeve ? Polyester liner dress socks, 2 pair, from Wal-Mart ? A Tires are not very expensive. And, yes it can be dangerous. More than anything, you will start having lots of flats, and any given time. most all of them preventable. Money 'saved' from riding bad tires will be more than spent in tubes and tube repair time. Soccerref
