Question:

What type of transmission does my truck have?

I need to replace my transmission but I don‘t know what kind I have. I have a Ford F250 351 windsor 5.8L 4speed automatic with overdrive. Its only 2WD. When I look up on google what type I would have it gives me like 4 possible types. can anyone help me? Oh and the reason why I don‘t just take it to a mechanic is because I can‘t drive it and can‘t afford a tow.

Answer:

If you can't afford it to be towed how on earth are you going to be able to afford to get the transmission fixed or replaced? More than likely it has the venerable C6 transmission if it is an automatic. What year is this truck, and we may be able to help out better? The E4OD transmission can be identified by the P-R-N-OD-2-1 configuration on the gear shift. The AOD high-performance automatic transmission for the 1990 Ford F250 is equipped with overdrive. This transmission can be identified by the P-R-N-OD-D-1 configuration on the gear shift. Used in Ford's 1990 F250 gas and diesel engines, the C6 3-speed automatic transmission was designed to endure heavy use. The only other transmission is the ZF series manual 5 speed transmission which is not an option in your case. Hope this helps. Also what is the condition of the used transmission, it may be worse than the one you have and I hope you have the equipment to remove and install the transmission as none of these transmission are light enough to be taken out by one person without a transmission jack.
