Question:

What would be a good practical use for a concrete silo?

I have a little piece of land that used to be part of a dairy fram and it has a concrete silo on it. It seems like a waste to not use it for something. I thought about a three story cabin. But it would be difficult to finish the interior and almost impossible to insulate. Or perhaps a chicken coop, but that would only use the bottom few feet of it. Any suggestions?Thanking you in advance. . .

Answer:

We built a deck on top of one for the great view.
Think Multi-purpose and three floors. say chickens on bottom. workshop in middle. storage and overlook on top. Workshops that are enclosed can get by with a space heater. rooms could be supported by a square connected with brackets to the wall and floors connected by stairs. I would think that you could find a blacksmith to make custom brackets to match the arc of the walls and support the floor frames after bolting either through or into the walls. I saw a product the other day that was a deck light that was originally used in boat decking to allow sunlight into the areas below decks that would add some natural light. I would want some kind of lookout at the top for after a hard days work.
