what would be the best exhaust system for a 73 nova which has a loud deep sound?
The best exhaust accomplishes the most intake scavenge. The best way to do this is with a single exhaust. They will always out scavenge a dual exhaust, when they're sized for the power output. Singles will out torque and out horse power a dual at RPM levels up to 7,000 for most American V8's. If your engine is all stock, I would put a single 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inch system on it with a good Flow-Master muffler. You can get them with single inlet/dual outlet if you want the dual look, and nobody is the wiser. A single 2 1/2 inch system with clean bends will handle up to about 300 HP. A single will also give you better fuel economy.
Long tube headers, dual 2.25 pipes and dynomax race bullet mufflers mounted right before rear axle housing, then 6 long 2.5 turn downs on end of mufflers. Thats gonna be LOUD. If you want alittle more streetable then same as above but with dynomax ultra flow mufflers
