Question:

Whats better as opinion flintlock or percussion muzzle loaders?

nan

Answer:

The percussion rifle(cap) was an improvement on the flintlock rifle of the day. Nothing has changed.
Mr J said it best.
I have built both flintlock rifles and caplock rifles and I shoot both. Both shoot equally well. However, the caplock is less trouble to shoot. If you are a beginner to muzzleloading, you had better stick with a caplock until you have gained a good bit of experience with shooting muzzleloaders. The flintlock requires a bit more tinkering to get it to shoot. You have to place the correct granulation of powder in the pan, position it correctly for best ignition and keep your flint knapped so it sparks properly. If you have experience with a muzzleloader, these things are no big problem but you do have to be aware of them and know what to do to correct them if your gun does not fire. The caplock is much simpler to shoot. Start with a caplock and later think about getting a flintlock. Both are a lot of fun, that's why I build and shoot both kinds.
flintlocks look way cooler and are harder to hunt with. percussion is much more dependable and easier to load, you dont have to worry about priming the pan, or it getting wet. if youre trying to get into the earlier season, go for a percussion. if you want a challenge, go for the flintlock. i debated the same thing myself so i could hunt the muzzleloader season, which is open before regular, but after bow. i chose the percussion, because its more reliable.
Better in what way? Better looking and cooler? Flintlock. A better challenge to shoot well? Flintlock. Better to get money into the pocket of the person selling it to you? Flintlock. A better and more efficient hunting tool? No doubt a percussion. Especially a modern in-line percussion. There's only 2 kinds of people who hunt with muzzleloaders though. 1) those who want more of a challenge than using a modern gun 2) those who only want to take advantage of some kind of muzzle loader only season or specialty hunt. If you're one of the former, get a flintlock or at least an old style percussion. If you're one of the latter, get a modern in-line percussion. Percussions reload faster, are much more tolerant to damp weather, and have a much faster lock time, which means better accuracy.
