Whats so special about the Solid front axle on the 84-88 toyota pickups?

And also anyone know how i can add power to a 84-88 toyota pickup. The engine is a bit weak and i wanna cruise 75 without having to step all the way down on the pedal. I also want better torque at a lower rpm. any ideas? thanks
