Do you have a cell phone? Try setting the alarm on your phone so that it rings when you need to get up. That's the only thing that worked for my son, who used to regularly sleep through his alarm clock going off.
Unfortunately, you can't easily get rid of it because the epoxy resin is cross-linked. Essentially, the piece of resin is one huge molecule, so you can't dissolve or soften it. If you heat it enough, you can burn it off. However, whatever it is caked-in might be destroyed first. You can also try chipping it off, but usually resin is pretty tough stuff (hence your question).
