Pipe is available in schedule 10, 20, 40 (Standard), 80, X extra heavy and XX double extra heavy. This is thru 12 or 14 inch. After that, the pipe wall is increased on the OUTSIDE.
It's my understanding that it's the tenant's responsibility to maintain the detectors batteries.
It should not be a problem. If you are worried about the pin setting off the alarm when passing through security, just get a doctor's note.
It is probably a 120 volt detector with a battery backup. It will never stop beeping until you change the battery.
