Question:

When will regular cable switch over to HD?

I use Rogers Cable (in Canada) and standard definition looks horrible on my HDTV (which I primarily bought for Xbox 360) even if I display 4:3 ratio on it. I was wondering if anybody has a rough estimate on when they will switch all broadcasts to HD. We have 2 HDTVs (one in my room and one in my grandmother's room lol) but both my parents have old CRTs and so they refuse to pay for the HD box, therefore installing a HD box is not an option. I know of the February 2009 switch down in the US (which only affects antenna and not cable anyway) but it has nothing to do with me. It would be great if anyone has a rough estimate. 2012? 2010? Thanks in advance.

Answer:

you will have the coax popping out of the wall into your television, then in basic terms the HDMI out from the field into your television. Then ensure you have the cable field HDMI output set as much as 1080i, sixteen:9, and your television set to sixteen:9. in case you have the two a coax and an HDMI going into the television, that should be inflicting the difficulty. in basic terms use HDMI. and oftentimes, with Samsung tvs, element (crimson/green/blue) artwork extra suitable than HDMI.
I'd say in about ten years, when more people could afford HDTV and if fiber optics are widely available.
It doesnt switch to HD it goes to digital you have to have HD tv and service
i'm sorry top tell you but i think it will be in a long time. they brought out cable tv decades ago yet ther still is antenna TV. Also Blu-ray is becoming a huge hit and so i think that they will simply start broadcasting from cable to blu-ray. The only reason that the cable company would change to HD or BR is if almost EVERYBODY gets HD or BR tv's. That is looning to be in a long time. the reason why they stopping antenna tv is because not many people use it anymore. I'm sorry but i think that the only thing to do is get a HD receiver or wait until tons of people start using HD flat panels. I'm not an expert though, go speak to rogers, if you complain they will give you free moviesXD BTW hd is 720p and 1080i (1 million pixels) bluray is 1080p (2 million pixels
Regular cable channels will not go HD (as in 720P or better resolution) at least until by the middle of the next decade, technology and bandwidth allowing. And you will need to get an HD cable box to get it, unless they work something that can can eliminate the cable box, and have the control the cable company wants. Depending on where you are, you might be able to get some HD from antenna. Toronto and Ottawa have some digital/HD up, London is starting, and you can try pulling in US digital stations, many with HD. The February 2009 this is only to turn off analog broadcasts int he US, nothing to do with HD.
