Black or white, male r female shouldn't matter. If you have a heavy accent though, it would be a problem i peope couldn't understand you.
If your job depends on your voice, then of course your voice attributes are going to be important for job performance assessment. Much like a radio announcer, air traffic controller, Norwegian Death Metal singer, or film/TV/game voice-over actress, your voice is your job skill. You could take voice lessons as actresses often do to improve that particular 'tool' skill.

Phone jobs are best suited for a person who can speak in a fashion that appeals to the majority of people, not to mention who can understand the majority of people - or the majority of your clientele if you are targeting a specific group of people for sales. SO if you are African born, Chinese Born, Mexican born or even British born, your accent will probably not appeal to or be easily understood by the majority. If your accent is so difficult that you were fired, then I'm surprised you got the job at all. You should look for a different sort of career. Like, not radio but TV instead.
