maybe its the same reason as police (putting their lives at risk might not be all the time but when they have to run into a burning building to save that baby then i think thats something to be proud of . it takes a special person who is willing to die to save others this is why they have such egos i agree some of them are a little pompous and rude but what can you do
Assuming there is no firethe back-up battery in the main box is dead. Replace it. One can usually find a replacement at Lowe's or Home Depot. Take the old one with you. Pay attention to the positive and negative leads. Put a piece of tape on the positive wire if it's not marked so you can tell which is which when you get a new one. More than likely there are one or two detectors that have a 9 volt battery in them as well. Check all. Usually just need to twist the unit and it will come apart.
If they are not off by the time you get the answer that you are looking for via Yahoo, I suggest that you get out of the house before it burns down.
