I understand that there is a MI surpreme court ruling as to where one should put their dock and boat hoist. The here say ruling I heard of was your property is divided into thirds and you are to put your dock and boat hoist on the middle third of your property. We are trying to find that ruling. The ruling is made so that the dock and hoist does not interfer with the neighbors. We some accual documentation that relates to that what I said.
Do you have an Lake Association you belong to? See if they have the current rules. I live in lower Michigan on a lake and have not heard of such a thing. I have 2 docks and a hoist and never had issues with where they have been placed. Remember to place them in a position that when the snow flies they are easy to get at and remove from the water before it freezes.
