Question:

Which axle to put on VW Passat?

I have both of my axles go bad on my VW 2003 Passat. What axle should I put on there? I know it would be the best to put the original ones on it, but Raxles don‘t have any at the moment for my vehicle and my local VW dealer wants $657 per side just for the parts. I refuse to pay this much, I wish raxles had some in stock (theirs are original ones). Did anyone had any experience with other axles, I know advance auto parts has GSP brand, Autozone had duralast. I read bad things about every possible brand. I see people complain about instant vibration when installing after market axle. Should I try at least to buy a brand new one instead of remanufactered? I gotto replace them asap because they are so bad, I‘m afraid that I will be stock somewhere and then have to pay for towing and still replace the parts. Thanks in advance

Answer:

A fools plan that also carries a hefty fine. What you were told is incorrect.
Go for original parts only. Most car's accidents are caused by poor quality imitation and/or fake parts. Most of people think using a fake car part is a harmless act justified by cost savings, but one out of three accidents on the road are caused by fake parts. For instance, fake Air Filters cause lower engine power, fake Clutch disk cause poor acceleration, slippage and even engine breakdown fake Spark Plugs cause low horsepower, poor starting, unstable idling etc. Its not only your car which is at stake here, but your own life. --- edit-- Did you check with your local Dealer if this can be covered with extended warranty? I believe VW is providing 100k mileage warranty of 3 years whichever come first, but this could be extended if you are regular customer of their Service Center. I doubt that the same applies in your locality, but nothing wrong in asking them. Drive shafts or axle are very sensitive part of the vehicle to play around with. Old model cars have the CV joints replaced only, but for newer model vehicles its the complete assembly that has to be replaced. Better yet, have it checked by VW professionals, they would know what to do.
