Question:

Which contains more copper?

a penny pre 1982 which is 95% copper or a nickel which is 25% copper? Since the nickel is bigger, does that mean there;s more copper in nickel? Should I sell all my copper pennies and get nickels since it would be easier to hold on to and transport?

Answer:

You should abandon the whole plan - an investment that you can't sell is useless. You will never be able to get metal value out of these. Even if you could, copper is $4/lb. At some point you should have enough money that 1000 pounds of copper is not an important store of money. Dealing with 1000 lbs of copper pennies would be a deep pain in the butt.
you know.....reading your posts put a smile on my face as I drink coffee. I never really knew people like you existed...shows you, eh!
Actually a nickel is made up of 75% copper and 25% nickel so there more copper in a nickel than a pre-1982 copper penny. I say you should collect both since nickels and pennies are worth more in their melt than face value. Plus if inflation keeps continuing at this pace (which I believe it will) then the value of both coins are going to be higher. But if costs is a factor then I say you should deal more in pennies than nickels since pennies are lot cheaper to get in boxes than nickels lol. Hope this helps and good luck collecting!
