Question:

Which motorcycle tires slide?

I was griping about my Bridgestone Battlax BT-020 tires not gripping (sliding) at their limits until this past Friday. I remembered at the last second that I needed to go to the grocery store. A late stab at a corner and impulsive grab at the brakes had me sliding both wheels while leaned over way too far. High side or low side?, I thought. But I steered into the slide and the Ninja 650R stood upright without drama. Now I LIKE the idea of tires that slide at their limits, except that I'd like the limits to be greater than those available on the BT-020's (especially when wet.)Any personal experience, recommendations, or suggestions would be welcome.

Answer:

Good start. Take the MSF course and try to learn from it and not just pass the test. Bikes do slide. If you are ever on sand or gravel you will feel it slide from under you. There is a contact patch of the tire and the road. It gives the bike an adhesion factor. If you exceed the adhesion, you will slide. Because you lean the bike into a turn, the centrifugal force helps you maintain balance and improves the adhesion Good first time cruiser is Honda rebel 250
personally, I'd go with the metzeler m3 for a bike that size. VERY grippy, but burn off quick on literbikes or bigger.
Dude, you are playing with fire. If you want to slide you better start racing flat track or something. I did pretty much the same thing you did just a couple of weeks ago. I am not looking to repeat as I feel I got by on the skin of my teeth (mine was caused by dirt in the turn). The worst part was my son and wife were behind me and I didn't know it and it scared them to death.
