Each big manufacturer has excelent tires, good tires and some cheap, low-quality tires. As long as you go for known tire companies and big brands - you will be fine.
Lots of companies make great tires. It all depends on what you need.
The best tires, bar none, are Metzeler -- they do nothing but tires, no other products. Unfortunately for you, it only make motorcycle tires. Metzeler tires cost about 50% over any other tire -- but stick to the pavement better and last over 50% more miles. For cage tires, Michelin is best. They cost more, but they stick better to the pavement and give you more miles. My wife and daughters ride on Michelins.
