Question:

Who services self seal transmission?

I bought a used 2005 Suzuki Forenza, and it is leaking transmission fluid, but where I get my oil changed they had no idea how to do it, and I definitely have no idea how to check it. The closest Suzuki dealer is kind of far and in a sketchy area. I was just curious if anyone new if Pep Boys or somewhere like that would be trained in self seal transmission? Or if I have to go out to the Suzuki place.

Answer:

self seal transmission? Then how can it be leaking? No such animal, but it is one without a dipstick or filler tube. Fluid level is checked via plugs on the side of the transmission. It is also refilled that way as well. If you have a leak, refilling is kind of pointless anyway until the leak is stopped. Most any repair shop can repair and fill that one. A transmission shop would be your best bet.
I wouldn't go to Pep Boys for a repair and I wouldn't use the major chain transmission shops. You can look it up on Google or even in a phone book and fine an independent transmission shop. BTW, that's a sealed transmission, nothing self about it. If it's leaking transmission fluid, then a seal is leaking and needs repair, not checking anything.
Self-seal transmission? Never heard of one. I know of no transmission that does not have a fill hole for transmission fluid. Call the Suzuki dealer, they should be able to tell you. One site I visited said there's a plug that you remove to access the fill hole. The fill plug is located behind the lower transmission mount. It has a square hole that you might be able to use a 3/8 drive socket wrench (without the socket) to open it. The transmission uses an expensive silica based fluid (no substitutes!!!). Pour enough in until it overflows the fill hole.
