Question:

Why are my rear tires nearly bald but front tires have lots of tread left?

Is it because my car is RWD?Would rotating the tires help?

Answer:

1) yes 2) Yes. Rotate every 5,000 miles. They may be cheap charlie tires, too. Do you-off road a lot? I had to buy Michelins, as the discount tires I bought didn't last One Week. Two exploded on Very Mild contact with a concrete stopper in a parking lot. No, they Weren't under inflated. The Michelins lasted a Long time.
This could be due to several reasons. Your vehicle is rear wheel drive which wears out the 2 rear tires faster. Your alignment could be bad, which would cause the 2 tires that do most of the driving to wear out, usually if this happens those 2 tires will have uneven wear before they get bald. You replace only 2 tires at a time and those 2 in the rear were already half worn out so you just wore them out and you need 2 new ones. Not rotating the tires enough or at all, which will cause 2 to wear out a lot faster. Rotating your tires will help keep all 4 of your tires to have even wear and wear out at the same time. But on the other hand if you don't rotate 2 tires will be good and the other 2 bad, so you will constantly be replacing tires in pairs. The majority of people recommend rotating your tires and you can look this up online. Its up to you if you want to rotate, but whatever you choose always make sure you have 4 decent/good tires on your vehicle at all times. Good Luck.
There are several reasons for rear drive wheels premature wear 1. Your driving habits, releasing the clutch at high engine rpm when moving 2.Road condition, if more curves are there then you will have this problem 3. Air pressure in tyres, incorrect pressure leads to tyre wear 4. Un equal size tyre on both sides. 5. Worn out differential parts inside the differential unit (Sun gears and star gears) 6. Load you are carrying on rear axle 7.Brake jamming on rear wheels. When brakes are applied rear brakes are locked first then the front wheels. This leads to rear tyres premature wear.
