Question:

Why are there shiny objects at all?

What aspects of light and or of reflective materials allow light 'rays' to be reflected. In standard newtonian physics reflections may occur during a collision following mechanical conservation, is the reflection of light very similar?

Dust will set them off faster than anything. Vacuum it out and replace the battery and that should solve your problem. If not, time to replace the alarm. There are two types of fire alarms and the cheaper ones are notorious for being set off by dust.
My parents have a smoke detector in the hall between their kitchen and bedroom in a small apartment, and every time they turn on the oven (nothing even has to be burning) it goes off, so they have something to hang over it when they're cooking.
