I drive a 1999 Ford Taurus. About a week ago, I accidentally broke my side view mirror while avoiding a collision with a truck. The mirror is still intact; only the arm holding it snapped in half. But shortly after this, my windshield wipers stopped working. I drove to the store and they worked perfectly, but they won‘t turn on the way home. They haven‘t worked since. I think I can hear the windshield wiper motor turn on when I turn the knob, but I‘m not entirely sure. Any ideas what might have happened?
Could be an electric problem, my buddy has an 03 Taurus with power mirror and defroster in them, the accident may have caused something to get screwed up in the wiring. Probably wrong but it is a chance, or the motor could have went.
usually when this happens it is because the linkage falls off the wiper motor. the wiper motor has a metal ball that pops into a nylon socket, when the socket wears or the retaining tabs break off it usually stays on until stress is put on it like hitting a big bump or ice or something like that, then you need a new wiper transmission
Take a look at at the bolt on the end when the wipers are on if you see the bolt turning and not the wiper, there's your problem tighten the bolts and see if they work. if not it might be that a relay blew, or a fuse.
