I went to the dentist to get my braces and they only put on the brackets. Why do i have to wait a week for the dentist to put on the wires and bands?
The one week waiting period was to ensure that the brackets will stick. Because when putting on braces, orthodontic spacers might be also used. These are inserted between molars which makes room for molar bands to be placed at a later date. Molar bands are used to ensure brackets will stick. This process is done 1-2weeks before the wires and bands are placed.
Time. It takes a while. And since dentists go through many patients, they can't spend a whole day on one person.
Some orthodontists will place the brackets first and allow the patient time to get used to the brackets before placing the rest of the hardware. It's a lot to get used to!
