why do more distant galaxies appear to be moving at a faster rate than closer ones?

Answer:

Glad I have a 97 GP, it doesn't have the crummy factory alarm! it's just the noise generating, headlights flashing GM noise box, it's malfunctioning, you can disable it for good by doing the following: The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS orange/black (-) located in the driver kick panel. (under the steering wheel) Once Located, splice into this wire with a simular guage wire, and put it to a solid chassis ground. This terminates the alarm functions entirely. However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly easy to steal, so I suggest you get an aftermarket alarm system to protect it from here on in.
You guys are newlyweds aren't you?! Congratulations. Well, as in anything, try to be a great example and set up a simple system that will make it easy for him to follow. The best you can do is influence him by how these changes show that you are a better personnot that he is a bad person for not participating. And be patient and give him time to wrap his head around it all. Many Wishes for a Happy Marriage!
