It seems every time I put on my wipers, they make noise. Even after changing the wiper blades. Is it what I am using to clean my windshield? When it rains real hard or consistantly I dont get the noise, just when it is drizzling or when I get road wash from other cars, little bits of rain or water.I‘ve noticed with new cars they never make noise, even when the windshield is completely dry. How do I get that?
The noise is caused by the friction of the rubber against the glass, therefore when there is more water for lubrication, there is less friction and therefore less noise. On the issue of newer cars not making the noise even with little or no water, that has to do with the fact that their windshield glass is new and smooth. With the smooth glass, the small amount of water is spread evenly across the glass, providing even lubrication. With an older windshield, there are scratches and knicks in the glass, giving the water a place to go and therefore not providing as much lubrication. When there is enough water (heavy rain, etc), the lubrication is there, and the noise stops. The best chance of stopping this is to get a new windshield. However, as that is likely not a viable option, you can try the same method that one would use to remove scratches and smooth out their paint job.polish and wax. Also, check to make sure that the arms that move your wipers aren't bent in any way, causing them to be misaligned. Good luck.
