Why do objects made of metal feel colder than objects made of wood?
true metal, is being able to play loudly, and softly, fast and slow, and always deliver a powerful message. Can be upbeat, or depressing. Metallica is NOT the only good metal. They owe blues, rock, and classical music so much.
True metal is any style of metal that has significantly ties to traditional heavy metal. True metal includes traditional heavy metal, thrash, death, black, doom, progressive, power, folk, etc. Nu metal, metalcore, and deathcore are not metal. The problem with genres like nu metal is that it takes minimal elements from heavy metal and its derivatives, most of its influences come out of grunge and other styles, among them industrial and rap. As for metalcore/deathcore, punk and its derivatives are not metal when you add too much punk to metal it ceases to be metal and vice versa, there are very few metalcore bands that have a mix of metal and punk in such a ratio that it can actually be considered metal.
A few metal fans believe that true metal is the metal from the 70s - 80s. I completely disagree with this; it is true that metal was at its prime during these decades but this sounding metal is pretty much dead and it has evolved into Nu-Metal and Metalcore. Some metal fans don't believe this is metal which is completely wrong. I define metal as music which is loud, has distorted riffs, guitar solos and double kicker drums. There is no true metal and false metal; metal is metal, it has just simply evolved, for better or for worse.
Original Heavy Metal put metal on the map... It's all thanks to Blues-Rock and Classic Rock... Start of with some of the first heavy metal bands Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Who, Deep Purple, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and MC5... Then the two bands that gave heavy metal it's sound were Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.
I think the truest metal should be 1) firmly rooted in the heavy metal tradition without any crossovers to other genres, 2) be as loud as obnoxious as it can be (metal isn't supposed to be very listenable), 3) fast, as it's always been that way (although metal got a lot faster over the decades) 4) intended as a means of expression rather than a means to make money (which doesn't mean that rich artists are untrue, it might also be because they are just really really good). I think that leaves us with death metal, black metal and thrash/speed metal. Before thrash there was already the new wave of British heavy metal, and black metal was influenced by a band like venom as well, for example, so I don't agree that thrash put metal on the map. Try to find a band you've never heard of, is faster than slayer, never compromised their style, has the harshest vocals you can imagine, has been together for at least 20 years, and only available on cassette tapes; then you're getting close to finding the truest metal!
