when i see those insane guys doing freeriding, and they do a 40ft drop or something, they land so hard on the back wheel then slam down the front. i know they have lots of travel, but i would think that they would tilt the bike towards the angle of the landing to make it smoother.do they do this on purpose or is it juts hard to control a bike in the air like that?
its better for doing big drops. when your doing a drop smaller than ten feet its smoother if you land with both tires evenly, ut when its bigger than that, its either land hard on ur back tire or dont land at all. if you land a big drop with both tires, the suspension gets used up all at once and the bike almost stops because of the impact and you will probably go over the bars. when you land on the back tire, it hurts a little but its the only thing you can really do.
Remember that your body is part of the bike's suspension system. The human anatomy dictates that our legs are better for absorbing landing impacts than our wrists. If you land on the front wheel of a bike, your wrists will be taking a lot of the shock transmitted through the wheel, the fork, and the handlebars, which our wrists are ill-suited to do. You may very well break your wrists that way. If you land on the back wheel of a bike, you can use your legs to cushion the shock of the impact transmitted from the rear wheel through the frame and pedals much more effectively. That's why you land on the rear wheel first with your butt off the saddle, let your legs dissipate the majority of the impact before the front wheels (and your wrists) come down and absorb a much smaller impact. Hope this clarifies things a little.
well when you land off of a drop with a mtn bike dirt bike ect you want to pull up the front back for more air and since free ride bikes dont have suspension usally u dont wanna land staight on both wheels or ull brake the frame
