Why does light reflect on snow?
Without maths...Because they do.
Well, the whole reason something looks light is because it is reflecting light. In the case of ice, a solid chunk of ice is transparent - it transmits light rather than reflecting it. However, snow consists of many tiny ice crystals. At each boundary between two materials, there is a chance for light to reflect, and with snow, there are plenty such boundaries between ice and air or between two ice crystals. This results in the reflection of light of all wavelengths, making the snow appear white. Metals reflect light in a different way.
