Everytime i try and use an Ethernet cable it doesnt recognize it, i have all the updates for Vista. Its not my Ethernet cable because it works with my other computerWindows vista home premium 32 bit
make sure your ethernet is enabled in bios when you log in BEFORE windows boots up sometimes you keep pushing f8 after a restart, sometimes its F3 and it could be the delete key this is right after you start your computer do that and then look into the bios and see if its got a ethernet thats not enabled. you will also need the ethernet drivers for your particular motherboard from the manufacturers website look in control panel, advanced, system devices to see if ethernet controller shows in there.
visit any community pc save and ask them. you likely can use a Cat 5 cable and that they've them in distinctive lengths. i'm getting mine at place of work Depot or considered one of the different community shops. Ron
If everything is right in the bios, check with your computers manufacturer and see if they have an upload to your computer's Ethernet. Sometime reinstalling it would help. Give it a try.
If your computer came with the ethernet port already installed and it's not an add-on card you may be able to go to your computer's manufacturing website they may have a driver that windows does not provide for your specific model. Also if this is a computer you built yourself then if you know your mother board model you can use your mother board manufacturer's website. Occasionally windows does not have the correct drivers.
Does your ethernet work with another cable? Is your ethernet port enabled? go to control panel/sytem/device manager/network adaptors should see something like xxxxxxx 10/100 network connection right click on it and you should see UPDATE DEVICE DRIVER DISABLE UNINSTALL if its enabled UPDATE DEVICE DRIVER ENABLE UNINSTALL if its disabled If its disabled then right click over ENABLE and enable it.
