Backwards, by far. Assuming that the seatback is high enough to fully support your head to prevent whiplash. All military transports use rear-facing seats for this reason. (Except for jump-seats where getting out through the cargo ramp quickly is the first priority.)
Take it to a shop and have them look at it. It could be any number of things from a bad shock to worn steering parts
Cast iron drain pipe. Check with a plummer for proper fix. They do make fittings for cutting out damage and replacing with other product.
