If you can get the same type and model smoke detector would be nice as the change would be made easy as the wires and plugs should be the same. You have to change out all of the smokes at the same time if hard wired. The red or orange is what sends the signal to each, If they aren't the same then remove the old one and disconnect all the wires and plug. Have the power off and re-connect black to black, white to white and red to red/orange. Most smokes come with new batteries and the plastic insert has to be removed for activation. Push the test button and your good to go. Thought I forgot, turn the power to the smokes back on, Some makers suggest changing after 10 years. I prefer 7 years
I have a tiny nose and I have paired nostril piercings that I love. I don't know if piercing your nose will make it more defined but I stand by this: If you can't change it, decorate it.
