Question:

Why is my boiler not working?

I live in Scotland. I know it's summer but I am still cold. My heating is not working. I want to have a bath and there is no hot water. My boiler is pretty new and was working fine yesterday. What is the deal?

Answer:

many things can be wrong. check pilot light. is it lit or does your boiler have hot surface ignition or electrostatic? OK so the pilot is on. is the power on? power on check. i guess that the water heater is run off the boiler. on a side arm? OK then make sure the thermostat on the water heater section is on. does it have a outside temperature gauge? some boilers are set to only fire below a certain temp. usually commercial but you never know. is the gas on? does it make any noise whatsoever when you move the thermostat from off to on? etc. give more details.
Check the fuse/breaker. Is it on a timer? If it is gas, is the pilot lit or is it self igniting?
