Question:

Why is my heat inducer/motor running while my AC is turned on at the thermostat?

I have a Comfort Maker Heating Air Conditioning system/furnace and I noticed that I am not getting air through the vents. The dampers are in the open position. I switched (at the thermostat) to AC/fan on quot;AUTOquot; for 20 minutes, and I noticed that the squirrel cage and the heat inducer/motor was running while it was set on AC. Is that supposed to happen. I also ran it on heat and same result w/absolute NO heat/flame coming out of the manifold. Also, the whole time the system was running, the outside air handler unit never commenced.

Answer:

The inducer will run if there is a call for heat or your high limit on your furnace is open. You have the a/c running which tells me your unit may be leaking water onto your control board or you have a short in some wiring somewhere. I suggest you call a HVAC company to diagnose.
Sounds like a bad control board. The relay for the inducer motor is on that board. If the board shorts many will turn the inducer motor on as a safety. No flame up on heat is another symptom, since the inducer must be off when you call for heat. If the board is bad no A/C is also a symptom.
