Question:

Why is my heat pump not putting out warm air?

It's about 20 degrees out side and my heating unit is not putting out warm enough air. It is a little warm. But not enough to raise the temperature in the house much over 67 degrees.

Answer:

First check filter. Could be a number of thing Freon low defrost board not operating properly defrost sensor bad. Or HP could be fine an your backup heat is not working. Put your thermostat in auxiliary heat or emergency heat. If you get heat then that's working an issue is with backup heat. Unless you have some experience working on stuff. Your probably lot better off calling for service can nit tell you how many calls I do that were simple fix woulda been 60 to 100 bucks but they tried fixing it an turn it into a few hundred dollar job.
The first thing to remember is that heat pumps do not produce 130 degree air like a gas furnace does...... AND heat pumps are virtually useless in a house that is not extremely tight energy efficient. At around 20F outside, the auxiliary heat should engage. Now, its perfectly fine to engage emergency heat on a temporary basis.... I would check continuity on the heat strips
Your heat pump is working fine. That system is not able to keep up with the temp if it's that cold out. Once it's below about 30F, you need to turn on the auxiliary heat. That's an electric heating coil in the air exchanger can be marked on the thermostat as AUX or EM.
